Day Off - Notes

This is a cross-post of a note I left on facebook.

Dear Mr. Mayor,

I we met at the Annex Street Festival, you were kind, cordial and a true pleasure to meet. Our conversation was of bike lanes and taxes wasted, studies ignored and help for the small business man. We were definitely agreeable with each other, though it was apparent that you would not be my choice for office. I thanked you for coming to the Annex and with your true smile you said "It's our city."

When you won, and I found myself surrounded by naysayers and the disgruntled, I told them that the only person responsible for how well I enjoyed our city, was me. I'd like to solicit your help for this cause.

You are at your best when you are among the people. I would like to see you more in the communities that make up our great metropolis. Our city would be better off if you were coaching football than worrying about who brings their dinner to council. I would rather say "My mayor's football team kicks ass!" instead of "No more sandwiches? Big deal."

I love riding the subway, done it all my life. I still get a thrill looking out the front of the train going through the tunnel, and who doesn't love the view from the Bloor St. Viaduct? If you really want more subways, get down there and pose with a few. Get your picture at the controls of a new Bombardier subway car, in Sudbury (while reminding their mayor how you kicked their ass in football).

When it snows, go shovel a senior's walk, I guarantee you will be on the front page of all the newspapers.

Don't do that dumb call-in show, that is so Mel Lastyear, go on George Stroumboulopoulos Tonight. Maybe you guys could get some kind of recurring joke going, he's a good guy, and he's funny too, Canadian funny.

And for god's sake, get Cherry to get you on Hockey Night In Canada. If anybody can whip the Leafs into shape, its you.

Don't worry about council, let Doug take care of that, its boring anyway.

Thanks for your time

and good luck over the next four years,

Sincerely,

Howard Pressburger
